Life is But a Dream
You’ve been asleep and dreaming.
It’s time to wake up.
During an ayahuasca ceremony a few years back I had a vision of exploring an unfamiliar neighborhood. With me was a playful young spirit who would guide me from house to house. It was almost like she was teasing me and would get me to chase her. She led me to the first house where I encountered an average family having dinner. Somehow I became a member of the family and momentarily forgot about the guide who brought me. As a family we discussed the things normal families might discuss around the dinner table. After a few moments, I would awaken from the vision and realize this wasn’t my family and this wasn’t my house. With a giggle, my guide motioned me to follow her to the next house where I again embedded myself into the lives of the residents. Over and over, I was led from house to house and would become momentarily immersed in the lives and dramas of those who lived there. I sat around dinner tables, played in tree houses, worried about money, watched tv, etc. — all the things that people do in a neighborhood. Near the end of the dream, my guide explained that this is like life. Every life, every existence, every drama is simply a dream from which we can awaken for a moment and have the opportunity to choose another dream, another story, another life. She reminded me that this lesson was also happening within a dream. “Dreams are all we have,” she explained. “Dreams within dreams within dreams.”
